Verkeersregels buitenland
Als je naar het buitenland op vakantie gaat is het goed om te weten wat de verkeersregels per land zijn. Een overzicht van zaken waar je in populaire vakantielanden onder meer op moet letten.
motorrijders-ruimtefile rijden
Voor motorrijders is het in Nederland niet verboden om in een file tussen de auto's door te rijden. Het Motorplatform heeft wel regels opgesteld, de zogenoemde filegedragscode.
Spelregels bij filerijden
•Houdt er rekening mee dat je als motorrijder minder goed zichtbaar bent.
Pas je snelheid aan
•Rijd rustig tussen de file door met niet meer verschil dan 10 km/u.
Rijgedrag van automobilisten
Houd rekening met:
•automobilisten die opeens van rijstrook wisselen
•bij warm weer: openstaande portieren van auto's.
Ben je met meerdere motorrijders
•Rij rustig achter elkaar tussen de file door. Hou een onderlinge afstand van twee auto's
aan. Kies voor dezelfde doorgang.
•Blijf niet als laatste voertuig van de file staan, tussen de rijen is veiliger.

België
In het land van onze zuiderburen dien je als motorrijder een reflectievestje bij je te hebben dat je in het geval van pech moet dragen. Maximumsnelheid op de snelweg is 120 km/u. Kinderen onder de drie jaar mogen niet op een motor worden vervoerd. Tussen 3 en 8 jaar mogen zij in een kinderbeveiligingssysteem worden vervoerd op motorfietsen niet zwaarder dan 125 cc. Pas vanaf 8 jaar mogen kinderen mee als passagier op motoren met een cilinderinhoud van meer dan 125 cc.

Kleding: Bestuurders en passagiers van motorfietsen moeten handschoenen, een jas met lange mouwen en een lange broek of een overall dragen, alsook laarzen of bottines die de enkels beschermen. Dit voorschrift geldt ook voor Nederlandse motorrijders

Parkeren
Motorfietsen mogen op de stoep worden geparkeerd en binnen de bebouwde kom ook op verhoogde bermen, mits er
minimaal 1,50 m vrije ruimte overblijft en zij geen hinder veroorzaken.

Duitsland
Motoren mogen in Duitsland niet tussen de file door rijden. Sterker nog; hier staat een forse boete op. Wanneer er geen file staat kun je echter lekker opschieten. Op de meeste snelwegen geldt geen snelheidsbeperking, voor deze stukken snelweg wordt wel geadviseerd niet harder dan 130 km/u te rijden. De Duitse verzekeringsmaatschappijen hebben al aangekondigd dat bij een ongeval als ze kunnen aantonen dat je harder gereden hebt dan 130 km/u je automatisch een deel van de aansprakelijkheid in je schoenen wordt geschoven, ook al heb je geen enkele schuld.. Let wel goed op de verkeersborden; op bepaalde snelwegen geldt een maximumsnelheid. Ook ben je verplicht om een reflectievestje bij je te hebben.
Aanhanger
Het is toegestaan om een aanhanger aan een motor te koppelen. De maximale breedte voor aanhangers van motoren is 1 m. De maximum snelheid op de autobaan is dan maximaal 60 km/u.
Passagiers
Het vervoeren van een passagier is toegestaan, mits er een speciale zitplaats (duo- of buddyseat) en voetsteunen aanwezig zijn.
Slepen: Een motor mag niet worden gesleept.
Verlichting: Het voeren van dimlicht of dagrijlicht (ook led) overdag is verplicht.

In Duitsland kent men de "umweltzone", automobulisten zijn verplicht om een milieusticker op hun voorruit te plakken. Deze verplichting geldt niet voor motoren.

Frankrijk
Let er op dat de je in je navigatiesysteem de 'verklikfunctie' van flitspalen verwijdert. Deze functie is in Nederland toegestaan, maar in meerdere Europese landen verboden. Op de snelweg bedraagt de maximumsnelheid 130 km/u, mits anders aangegeven. Bestuurders die korter dan 2 jaar het rijbewijs bezitten mogen maximaal 110 km/u.
Alcoholtester
De Franse regering heeft de knoop doorgehakt: elke automobilist in Frankrijk is sinds 1 maart 2013 verplicht om een alcoholtester in zijn auto te hebben, maar bij afwezigheid hiervan ontvangt hij hiervoor geen boete.

Tip: Voor de zekerheid is het altijd beter een alcoholtester mee te nemen, bij de Action hebben ze alcoholtesters voor 89 cent die verkocht worden door een Franse importeur.

Aanhanger
•Motoren mogen een aanhanger trekken, mits deze hooguit de helft weegt van de motor.
Helm
•Het dragen van een helm is verplicht.
•De helm moet voorzien zijn van reflecterende strepen, zichtbaar vanuit alle richtingen. Reflecterende stickers zijn onder meer verkrijgbaar bij topworld.nl en kosten circa € 2. Deze regel geldt niet voor toeristen.
Verlichting
•Het voeren van dimlicht of dagrijlicht (ook led) overdag is verplicht.

Spanje
Er mag op de Spaanse snelwegen maximaal 120 km/u worden gereden. In de bebouwde kom is de maximumsnelheid 50 km/u en op de secundaire wegen is dat 90 km/u. Kinderen jonger dan 12 jaar mogen niet mee als passagier op de motor.

Portugal
Motoren met een cilinderinhoud van minder dan 50cc zijn op de snelweg verboden. De maximumsnelheid is 120 km/u. Bestuurders die nog geen jaar hun rijbewijs bezitten mogen echter niet sneller dan 90 km/u. Op secundaire reden mag maximaal 90 km/u worden gereden in de bebouwde kom maximaal 50 km/u. Kinderen jonger dan 7 jaar mogen niet mee achterop. Uniek is dat Portugal een extra variant op het inhaalverbod kent, waarbij motorrijders (en ook brommerrijders) geen andere motorvoertuigen mogen inhalen. Dit wordt aangegeven via een verkeersbord met daarop rechts een zwarte auto en links een rode motorrijder.

Groot Brittannië
Behalve het links rijden is het ook even wennen aan de snelheden die volgens Brits gebruik in mijlen worden aangegeven. Op de snelweg mag je 112 km/u (70 mph), op secundaire wegen 96 km/u (60 mph) en in de bebouwde kom 48 km/u (30 mph). 
Aanhanger
Het is verboden een aanhanger te koppelen aan een motor van minder dan 125 cm³.
Het is wel toegestaan een aanhanger te koppelen aan een motor van meer dan 125 cm³,
mits de aanhanger niet breder is dan 1 m, de ruimte tussen de motor en de aanhanger niet
groter is dan 2,5 m en het geladen gewicht van de aanhanger niet meer bedraagt dan 150
kg of twee derde van het gewicht van de motor.

Oostenrijk
Kinderen onder de 12 jaar mogen in Oostenrijk niet als passagier achterop. Voor de snelwegen is een vignet vereist. Let op de snelwegen niet alleen goed op je snelheidsmeter, maar ook op je klokje: tussen 22.00 uur en 5.00 uur wordt de overdag geldende maximumsnelheid van 130 km/u gereduceerd tot 100 km/u. Uitzondering is de A1 van Salzburg naar Wenen en de A2 van Wenen naar Villach. Vergeet ook niet een EHBO-kit mee te nemen; je bent verplicht om deze bij je te hebben.
Filerijden: Motorrijders mogen in een file stilstaande auto's voorzichtig voorbijrijden. Rijden over de vluchtstrook is daarbij echter verboden.
In Oostenrijk is het verplicht voor bril- of contactlensdragersom een reservebril bij zich te hebben.
Bijzonderheden: Het is verboden op een motor te rijden met een rugzak op de borst

Zwitserland
Hoewel het nauwelijks meer wordt gecontroleerd, zijn brildragers in dit Alpenland nog altijd verplicht om een reservebril of –lenzen bij zich te hebben. Er wordt wel actief gecontroleerd of je navigatiesysteem een verklikfunctie voor flitspalen heeft; dit is streng verboden en wordt flink beboet. Van tevoren even verwijderen dus. Voor de snelweg is verder een jaarvignet verplicht en er geldt een maximumsnelheid van 120 km/u.
Aanhanger
Er mag een aanhanger met één as aan een motor worden gekoppeld.
De maximumbreedte van een aanhanger is 1 m en de maximumhoogte is 1,20 m. De
maximumlengte gerekend vanaf het midden van het achterwiel van het trekkende
voertuig is 2,50 m. De lading mag niet meer dan 50 cm uitsteken.
Er mogen geen passagiers worden vervoerd in de aanhanger.
Passagiers
Het is verboden om meer dan één passagier op de motor te vervoeren.
Verlichting
Het voeren van dimlicht of dagrijlicht overdag is niet verplicht, maar wordt wel
aangeraden in Zwitserland.
In tunnels is het voeren van dimlicht verplicht.
Bijzonderheden
Als een rij voertuigen voor bijvoorbeeld een verkeerslicht of brug moet wachten,
moet een motorrijder op zijn plaats in de rij blijven. Brildragers moeten een
reservebril bij zich hebben.

Italië
Op de Italiaanse snelwegen is 130 km/u de maximumsnelheid. Heb je echter een motor met minder dan 150cc dan mag je niet eens op de snelweg komen, hoe snel je motor ook kan. Voor vrijwel alle snelwegen moet tol worden betaald.
Helm
Het dragen van een helm is verplicht. Deze helm moet voldoen aan de
ECE-norm 22. Hierop wordt streng gecontroleerd.
Passagiers
Het is toegestaan een passagier te vervoeren.
Het vervoeren van een kind jonger dan 5 jaar is niet toegestaan.
Bijzonderheden
In Italië zijn de straffen op het overtreden van verkeersregels voor motorrijders erg streng
(om het aantal ongelukken met motoren terug te dringen). Relatief lichte overtredingen,
zoals het dragen van een verkeerde helm, kunnen al leiden tot hoge boetes of
inbeslagname van de motor.

Denemarken
Ook in Denemarken is de maximumsnelheid op de snelwegen 130 km/u.

Noorwegen
De maximumsnelheid op de snelweg is 90 km/u. Op veel plaatsen mag er echter harder worden gereden; verkeersborden geven aan waar en hoeveel precies.

Zweden

Hier mag op de snelwegen wat harder worden gereden: 120 km/u.

Finland
De maximumsnelheid op de snelwegen is gelijk aan die van buurland Zweden: maximaal 120 km/u. Rijd je te hard, dan is de boete inkomensafhankelijk.

Austria

  • Children passengers have to be over twelve years old and must be able to reach the footrests and handles.

  • It is required to have a first-aid kit with you.
  • Riding on motorways and several expressways requires an Autobahn vignette. At all motorway border crossings and most petrol stations in Austria there is a point of sale.
Belgium

Maximum speeds: motorway: 120 km/h, non-urban roads: 90 km/h (Flanders 70), urban roads: 50 km/h

  • Filtering through a traffic jam is allowed.
  • Towing a trailer is allowed.
  • Alcohol limit: 0.5 g/l.
  • Children over the age of eight may travel on the back of the motorcycle.
  • It is compulsory to have your headlight on in the daytime.
  • You must wear a safety vest when your bike breaks down on a motorway or on a road where stopping and parking are prohibited.
  • Motorcyclists (including passengers) must wear gloves, a long-sleeved jacket and long trousers (or a one-piece suit with long sleeves), and boots that protect the ankles.

Bulgaria

France

Maximum speeds: motorway: 130 km/h (110 in rainy conditions), expressways: 110 km/h (100 in rainy conditions), non-urban roads 80 or 90 (see below) km/h, urban roads: 50 km/h

  • From 1 July 2018, speed limits on secondary or non-urban roads have gone down from 90 to 80km/h. This 80 speed limit concerns only bidirectional roads without a central separator.
  • Filtering through a traffic jam is generally not allowed. It is under trial in five cities (Paris, Lille, Marseille, Bordeaux, Lyon), with a maximum speed of 50 km/h.
  • Towing a trailer is allowed.
  • Alcohol limit: 0,5 g/l.
  • Children passengers under 5 years must use an approved seat with handles and footrests. Children over 5 years must reach the footrests. Well fitting helmet is mandatory.
  • It is compulsory to have your headlight on in the daytime.
  • It is compulsory to have a safety jacket with you.
  • Riders and passengers are required to wear CE certified gloves.
  • French motorways are operated by private companies, with most featuring tolls that can be paid in cash or with a Mastercard or Visa card.
  • It is forbidden to have a speed camera warning system in your navigation system.
  • Vehicles driving in Paris from monday to friday between 08.00h and 20.00h need to have a ‘Crit’ Air’ sticker, which shows the vehicle emissions and if the vehicle is allowed to enter Paris. For vehicles not registered in France, you can order the Crit’Air sticker here. Please note the LEZ of Paris will be extended to the surrounding suburbs in july 2019 and therefore, use of Euro 1 motorcycles will be banned in the whole area and not only Paris. 
  • Be aware that the French cities of Lyon, Grenoble and Lille currently have emergency emissions schemes, an emergency low emission zone for Strasbourg and Toulouse was implemented. This means that restrictions can be placed on vehicles if pollution is expected to reach a particular level. If visiting these cities it may be beneficial to order a Crit’Air sticker.
  • As a foreigner, you have to wear reflective stickers on your helmet, just like the French.

  • Filtering through a traffic jam is allowed.
  • It is compulsory to have your headlight on in the daytime.
  • It is compulsory to have a safety jacket with you.
  • Towing a trailer is allowed, but only during the day. The maximum speed is 10% lower than the normal maximum speed applicable to the towing vehicle (on the highway this is 108 km/h (120 km/h -10%)).
  • Alcohol limit: 0,5 g/l.
  • Children passengers must be at least twelve 12 years old, seven when riding with their parents. They have to wear a approved helmet.
Sweden

  • It’s illegal to use radar detection equipment. If you have a navigation system that shows fixed speed cameras, you must deactivate this function.
  • For Swiss highways you must purchase a Autobahn vignette, available at the customs and at the service stations at the border.

United Kingdom

Maximum speeds: motorway and dual carriageways: 112 km/h, non-urban roads: 96 km/h, urban roads: 48 km/h

  • Alcohol limit: 0,8 g/l (0,5 g/l in Scotland).
  • Filtering through a traffic jam is allowed.
  • Towing a trailer is allowed.
  • Children may ride on the back of the bike, but must be able to reach the footrests.
  • Daytime running lights/headlights are not compulsory except when light conditions are poor.
